Brown shines in 145 lb. title contest against Sindone

The WXC held a huge 21 fight card at Dog Lady Island in Monroe on Saturday June 19th. The night went well into the early morning and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats until the very end.

The Main Event of the evening was built up with a lot of hype and the two combatants did not disappoint. Pitting two of Michigan’s best at 135 and 145 lbs. Carleton’s Deven Brown successfully defended his WXC 145 lb. title against South Rockwood’s Dominick Sindone. The match won Fight of the Night honors after the two went toe to toe for 3 rounds. In the end, Brown was able to use his wrestling, boxing and cage control to his advantage to stifle most of Sindone’s attempt’s to take over the fight. The crowd gave the two a round of applause after a very exciting affair that left them standing for most of the bout.

Two more titles were on the line at Island Rumble. Muncie, Indiana’s Anthony Hepfer defeated Monroe’s Adam Mittendorf via technical knockout in round one earning him the WXC 125 lb. title. Redford’s Mickey Marshack won the WXC 155 lb. title after defeating Eric Miller of Muncie, IN. via verbal submission due to strikes.

Taylor’s Will Woodford fought against a very tough opponent in Toledo’s Chris Wolfgang. Woodford was able to win the first round with a tight boxing attack. The second and third was more of technical display of MMA with both gaining points on the ground and standing up. In the third, Woodford came out ahead with his striking and was able to win the fight via unanimous decision from Judges Lee Trombley, Phil Sindone and Rob Taylor.

A couple of athlete’s from Monroe were able to put on a good show in front of their home town crowd. Nate Ellison put on a dominant performance against Brandon Wihelm winning via triangle choke at 1:35 in the first round in their 155 lb. contest and could possibly contest for the title in the future. Monroe’s Gary Conradson put himself into the 170 lb. title mix when he was able to win his bout against Demetrius Yeo via technical knockout at 1:35 of the first round. John Green also put himself into the 205 lb. title mix when he knocked out Chris Ostosh with a hard punch at just 13 seconds into the first round.

Dundee’s Adam Trombley wasted no time in getting down to business against Detroit’s Eric Burress. Trombley was able to use his wrestling to control the bout and basically took the fight whenever he wanted. He used a little of his boxing to keep Burress at bay but resorted to his excellent grappling skills when it mattered most. The end came when Burress submitted to a rear-naked choke at 1:45 of the second round.

The next WXC event is planned for Saturday July 24th at The Yack Arena in Wyandotte.
